For parents, partners and siblings
Ten thingsfamilies ask us.
Looking for housing for someone you love is its own kind of hard. Here are honest answers to the questions we hear most, with no pressure and no promises we can’t keep.
No house can guarantee recovery. What a good one can do is make the right things easier and the wrong things harder.
What sober living is
Structured, substance-free housing for people in recovery. It bridges formal treatment and independent living, with accountability and community. Read the plain-English guide.
How it differs from detox or treatment
Detox and treatment are clinical care from licensed providers. Sober living is housing. The Foundry doesn’t provide medical care or therapy; residents can attend outpatient treatment elsewhere while they live here. Treatment vs. sober living.
What the houses provide
Furnished rooms with utilities, linens and laundry included; full kitchens; rides to appointments and meetings early on; help with resumes and job applications; support around court dates.
House expectations
No alcohol or drugs, randomized testing, curfew, required meetings, chores, respect for housemates, and work, school or an outpatient program. Our approach.
How accountability works
Written rules applied to everyone, testing on no predictable schedule, house meetings, and a peer community that notices. A relapse leads to an honest conversation about the right level of care.
How family communication is handled
Call us with any question about how the house works. What we can share about a specific resident depends on that resident’s consent, which protects him and every other man in the house. Ask us how this works in your situation.
What to ask during a tour
Who manages the house and how often they’re there. How testing works. What happens after a relapse. What the rate includes. Whether you can talk to a resident without staff in the room. The touring checklist.
Length of stay
Most men stay three to twelve months. There’s no forced exit date; the men who do best usually measure it in months, not weeks.
Rates and financial assistance
Rates depend on the room and the length of stay. Sober living is private pay; insurance covers treatment, not housing. Scholarships are available for qualified residents.
