Dear friend,
If you’re reading this, you’re probably searching for sober living in Sunny Isles for someone you share a life with: a husband, a boyfriend, the father of your children. Maybe he’s finishing treatment and the discharge date is getting close. Maybe he’s home already and you can feel things slipping. Maybe you’ve simply run out of ideas. I’m writing to you, not to him, because you are often the person doing the searching, the calling and the worrying, and you deserve straight answers too.
My name is Richard. I’ve spent years around men’s recovery housing in South Florida. I can’t promise you an outcome. Nobody honest can. But I can tell you what a good sober house looks like, what you can reasonably expect, and where the lines are that protect you both.
First, where we are and where we aren’t
I want to be clear from the start. The Foundry runs two FARR-certified men’s sober living houses, and neither is in Sunny Isles Beach or Golden Beach. The closer one, Foundry: Lakehouse, is in North Miami Beach, roughly 10 to 20 minutes west of Collins Avenue depending on traffic. The other, Foundry: Beachhouse, is on the Intracoastal in Hollywood, roughly 20 to 30 minutes north.
That short distance can be a gift. He can be close enough to keep his job and see you once visits are allowed, and far enough that your home doesn’t have to be his recovery program. Those are two different things, and keeping them separate is often what saves the relationship.
Why he might need a house instead of home
Coming straight home from treatment is the hardest version of early recovery. The structure of the program disappears overnight. The old routines, the old friends and the old stresses are all still there. And you end up in a role nobody should have: part spouse, part counselor, part drug tester.
A sober living house takes those jobs off your plate. Someone else enforces the rules. Someone else is awake when he can’t sleep. He lives with other men who are doing the same work, and they hold him to it in a way a partner can’t without it costing the marriage.
I’ve watched a lot of wives and partners feel guilty about this, as if suggesting a sober house means giving up on him. It doesn’t. It means you’re asking for help with something that was never meant to be carried by one person.
What good sober living near Sunny Isles looks like
When you start calling houses, and I hope you call several houses that come up for sober living Sunny Isles Beach FL, these are the things I’d listen for.
It is certified, and you can check
Florida has a voluntary certification program for recovery residences under section 397.487 of the Florida Statutes. The certifying organization is the Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR). Ask whether the house is certified, then look it up yourself. You are allowed to verify.
The rules are real
No alcohol or drugs, randomized drug testing, a curfew, chores, required meetings, and an expectation that he works, studies, volunteers or attends an outpatient program. Ask what happens when someone breaks a rule. A calm, specific answer is a good sign. Our article on drug testing in sober living explains how testing typically works.
It’s run by people who understand
The Foundry’s houses are run by men in recovery who are active in the fellowship. Whatever house you choose, ask who’s there overnight and who you would speak to if you were worried.
It is honest with you
Sober living is a home with rules. It is not treatment and not detox. If he still needs clinical care, a good house will say so, even if it means losing a resident. You can search licensed treatment providers at FindTreatment.gov. Our guide to what to ask on a sober living intake call can help you prepare.
It’s for men
A men’s sober living house can feel strange to a partner at first. In practice, many men find it easier to be honest in a room of other men, without performing for anyone. Both Foundry houses are men-only.
Boundaries that protect you both
This is the part I most want you to read slowly. Boundaries are not punishments. They are the lines that let you stay in his life without losing your own.
- Let the house hold the rules. You don’t need to test him, search his things or track his phone. That is the house’s job now.
- Respect the blackout period. At The Foundry, new residents have an initial period before visits. It can feel long. It exists so he can settle into the house, not into the habit of leaning on you.
- Decide about money in advance. Many partners find it helps to agree, early and calmly, what you will and won’t pay for. Write it down if that helps.
- Keep your home your home. If he’s not ready to come back, it’s fair to say so. A sober house gives you both time.
- Don’t be his only support. He should have a sponsor, a home group and housemates. If you’re the only person he calls, gently point him back to them.
- Get your own support. Al-Anon meets throughout Miami-Dade and online. You don’t have to justify needing it.
And if he relapses, please know this: at The Foundry, a relapse leads to an honest conversation about the right level of care. It isn’t the end of the story, and it isn’t your failure.
Sunny Isles Beach and Golden Beach, from a recovery point of view
You know these towns well, but it helps to look at them the way a man in early recovery does. Sunny Isles Beach incorporated in 1997 and had 22,342 residents at the 2020 census. It’s compact, about 1.8 square miles including water, and most of life runs along Collins Avenue (State Road A1A). Sunny Isles Boulevard leads west toward North Miami Beach, and the William Lehman Causeway leads west to Aventura. Golden Beach, the small residential town just to the north, incorporated in 1929 and counted 961 residents in 2020; Hallandale Beach in Broward County is on its other side.
When he’s further along, or when visits begin, there are calm, free places to spend time together:
- Newport Fishing Pier, 16501 Collins Avenue. The original pier was badly damaged by Hurricane Wilma in 2005 and reopened as Newport Fishing Pier in 2013.
- Heritage Park, 19200 Collins Avenue, four acres with a Veterans Wall, fountains, an open field and a dog park.
- Gateway Park, 151 Sunny Isles Boulevard, five acres with a performance stage and a butterfly garden.
- Samson Oceanfront Park, 17425 Collins Avenue, kept for quiet, nature-focused recreation.
- Intracoastal Sports Park, 15800 Collins Avenue, with tennis and basketball courts, outdoor exercise equipment and a walking path.
The city lists these and its other parks on its parks and facilities page, and it also runs a city bus; check the city’s site for current routes. A walk on the pier or a slow lap of a park is often a better first visit than a restaurant.
Sunny Isles Beach ZIP code
Both Sunny Isles Beach and Golden Beach use a single ZIP code, 33160. Wikipedia lists 33160 for each town, and the USPS-based directory zip-codes.com shows it accepting Sunny Isles Beach, Golden Beach, Aventura, North Miami Beach and Miami as city names. In other words, a 33160 address could be in any of several municipalities, so it’s worth checking the actual city on any address.
| ZIP | Area it covers | Practical note for families |
|---|---|---|
| 33160 | All of Sunny Isles Beach | Compact and walkable along Collins Avenue, with parks and the pier close together. Roughly 10 to 20 minutes from the Lakehouse. |

Our Miami-Dade ZIP code guide covers the rest of the county.
What his days will look like
You may worry he’ll be idle. He won’t be. At The Foundry, every man is working, in school, volunteering or in an outpatient program (IOP counts) within his first couple of weeks, and we help with resumes and interviews. Free job-search help is also available through CareerSource South Florida. Evenings are for meetings; our program is built on the twelve steps, with a sponsor and regular attendance. If you want to see how many meetings there are near home, the AA and NA finders show them. Early on, residents are driven to meetings and appointments. Most men stay between three and twelve months.

The two houses, plainly
Foundry: Lakehouse is at 871 NE 182nd Terrace in North Miami Beach. It’s a lakeside home with eight bedrooms and five bathrooms, canoes and kayaks, a hammock, a tree swing and a fire pit, near Aventura and I-95. For families in Sunny Isles Beach or Golden Beach, it’s the closer choice.
Foundry: Beachhouse is at 701 Hollywood Blvd in Hollywood, on the Intracoastal Waterway minutes from Hollywood Beach, with a rooftop terrace, pool, ping pong, kayaks and a billiards room with a view of the water. It suits a man who would do better with a little more distance.
Both houses have furnished rooms, with utilities, linens, laundry and high-speed internet included. Sober living is private pay, and scholarships exist for qualified men. We give rates on the phone and don’t publish bed availability, because it changes.
